I Miss My Vegetable Garden!

I had a vegetable garden up until April last year and I loved it. It was the best feeling to go out and pick the vegetables that I had grown and come back in and cook them up for my family. While I was very pregnant with baby #5 and just after her birth I found that I just couldn’t keep up with it anymore. So I harvested what was there, let everything die off and eventually let the grass grow back over it.

Now that Sophie is 1 and can potter around the backyard with me and summers harsh heat has left us I am missing my little vegie patch.

I have a small garden at the end of our paving which was a herb garden but I let that die off too. I am going to plant some lettuce, some rocket and possibly some herbs in there again. It won’t be quite as much fun as my bigger vegie patch but it’s a start.

Here is a before photo of the plot that I intend to fill with yummy lettuces. I’m hoping to get it cleared out and some lettuce seeds planted in there in the next couple of days!

I’m hooked to Reality TV!

The launch of Australia’s Big Brother 08 last night and a few posts and comments I have seen around today have got me thinking about my own obsession with Reality shows. I don’t watch them all and what I do watch I don’t watch religiously, but I am guilty of watching shows like So You Think You Can Dance? Australian and American Idol, Big Brother, The Biggest Loser, Perfect Housewife, How Clean Is Your Home? and Supernanny.

The last three that I mentioned I enjoy because I get a few hints and tips from them and because mostly the people’s homes and children featured on the shows are in a worse state than mine and it makes me feel good (Sad but true!).

I enjoy watching The Biggest Loser to see the transforations of the contestants but I don’t agree with the way they are losing weight, surely it can’t be good for their bodies to do what they are doing!.

And I have a funny relationship with Big Brother. I find most of the people that enter the house to be extremely annoying. I cringe at the thought of watching 3 months of these people on the tv, but guess what?…… I will be watching! Mostly because I can’t help myself. It’s like a car accident, you don’t want to see but you just can’t take your eyes off it!

What’s on the menu this week?

I’ve been pretty slack with everything over the last 2 weeks while the kids have been on school holidays, but today is the day to get everything back on track. I spent a few hours this morning cleaning and tidying the house and now it’s time to plan the weeks meals so that I can go and buy some groceries tomorrow. So what are we going to eat:

Monday
Dinner – Spaghetti Pie, Garlic bread and salad

Tuesday
Dinner – Meat Pies, Potato Wedges and Peas

Wednesday
Dinner – Pasta Bake and Salad

Thursday
Dinner – Dinner – Lemon Pepper Chicken, Oriental Rice and steamed vegetables

Friday
Dinner – Vegetable Soup

Saturday
Dinner – Cheese on Toast

Sunday
Dinner – Family Dinner at Mum and Dads

Thanks to Laura at I’m an Organizing Junkie for hosting Menu Plan Monday. Go and check out more great menus!.

Works For Me Wednesday – Cleaning Game

kids clean up game I don’t know what it’s like at your house but the thought of asking my children to clean their bedrooms sends a shiver down my spine and an ache in me head! My kids sleep two to a room so when they are in their rooms cleaning up there are always fights. Somebody is always cranky because they are doing all the work and the other is sitting around doing nothing. A cleaning session almost always ends in tears. So I have come up with a game that gets their bedrooms tidy and keeps all the kids happy.

I go into each room and write down 6 things that need to be done. Things like:

#1 – Pick up clothes and put them in the laundry
#2 – Pick up books and put them on the shelf
#3 – Collect all the rubbish
#4 – Put pens, pencils and textas away
#5 – Put the playstation things away in the cupboard
#6 – Collect toys and put them in the toy box

Then I gather the kids up, grab a dice and one by one they roll the dice to see what their job is. They go into their room one at a time to do their job and when they are done they come out and the next child goes in. Because I have 4 kids (not including the baby) in 2 rooms they have a competition to see which bedrrom can be tidied the fastest. It works for me!!!
