I was sick of hunting around the house for some coloured pencils or a ruler or a glue stick when the kids were doing their homework and had left their pencil cases at school. So at the beginning of the year while we were buying all the school supplies I bought some extra bits and pieces and put them into a special box which has become our homework box. We have also made a rule that the contents of the homework box must stay at the dining table (which is where all the kids do their homework) otherwise all the little bits and pieces will dissappear.
Below is a photo of the box before I organised it:

And here is a photo of the box after I organised it:

This photo was taken in February 2004. It’s a picture of my eldest three girls, Chloe (the eldest) was only five years old and was in Year 1 at school. Clare was three years old and Caitie would have been almost two years old.
It was taken while I was pregnant with Riley and before Sophie was even thought about and it was before I knew anything about blogging and podcasting. Wow that seems like such a long time ago, I don’t remember life before blogging!.
The photo was taken because I was trying to get some nice shots to give to my Mum and my Mother in Law for Mothers Day. I remember it being lots of fun, all the girls were being very cooperative and enjoyed posing for a million photos and it was very easy to get them all looking at the camera at the same time. Unlike these days when I have 5 children and in every shot I have one of them looking in a different direction…..lol!

Todays tackle is something that I find myself doing on a pretty regular basis…… Decluttering the top of my fridge. The top of the fridge is a hot spot in our house, it’s where we put things up out of the way of the kids and where things that don’t have homes seem to live. The last time I decluttered up there I put a basket on top to try and contain all the mess, but I’ve found that we have gathered more stuff up there and it’s all just spilling out over the edges. So I think the basket needs to go, which means I need to find a new home for a few things.
Ok so here is the before photo:

And here is the after photo:

And if you are wondering what I did with all the stuff, I put most things away in their proper homes and then I emptied out a file / drawer thingy (the picture is below) and put all the stationary things that we use on a daily basis in it and made some space for the drawers in the top of my pantry, so it’s all still up and away from the little kids.

Thanks to Susan and Janice for hosting Tackle It Tuesday at 5 Minutes for Mom , your motivation to get things done around the house is very much appreciated

This meme is a very timely one for me because I have been thinking a lot lately about how I can make our home more homely and cosy for my family.
Last week I worked on my bathroom and this week I decided the kitchen needed my attention more than any other room in the house. I did a little research and discovered some very interesting Feng Shui tips for the kitchen and decided to start today by uncluttering one of my kitchen drawers (I didn’t have much time to declutter after spending so much time researching… hehehe). Imagine my surprise when I checked out the Home a Haven meme tonight to discover that we had to clean out a drawer!. I must have known something
So here are my before and after photos:

Not all that impressive I know, but hey, it’s a start! And by the end of the week I’m going to have a gorgeous clean, decluttered haven of a kitchen!

I’ve come to realise that if you want prosperity and abundance in your life you need to start in the kitchen.
For many people the kitchen is the hub of the home and if you would like to attract prosperity and abundance to your life there are a few things you can do in your kitchen.
- Keep your kitchen clutter free. Keep your benches clear and free from clutter. Declutter your drawers and cupboards of all the things that you no longer use.
- Keep your pantry full of food.
- Rotate the stove burners that you use. Don’t use the same burner all the time as this makes the energy stagnant and you want the energy to continue to flow around your kitchen.
- Fill your kitchen with nice smells. Burn oils or wax melts, bake cakes or cookies or have a bowl of fragrant pot pourri.
- Have bowls of fresh fruit and vegetables. Keep your fruit bowls well stocked.
- Use wooden bowls and wooden spoons as much as possible.

Last week for Tackle It Tuesday I cleaned my vanity (check out the photos!). I took everything off the top and put it in the cupboard (all in an organised fashion, of course!). So now all I have on top of my vanity is a beautiful freshia scented candle. I have been working hard to keep it looking like that every day and so far I have been pretty good at putting everything back in to the cupboard, but I am going to keep working on it this week. I love the look of the bathroom without all the clutter around the sink, so I am going to work on making this a habit!
